Connecting and reading out another Modbus device

Of course it is possible to connect and read out further Modbus devices besides the contained temperature/humidity sensor. To do this, the Modbus device and the data points to be read out of the this device need to be added in the icom Data Suite.

  • Connect the new Modbus device to the RS485 or Ethernet interface of the router. When doing this, observe the specifications of the Modbus device and the Installation and operation manual of the device.

  • Enter the address https://192.168.1.10 in a web browser and open the web interface of the icom Data Suite.

  • Login using the default credentials Name: insys and Password: icom.

Click on the question mark in the title bar (Display help text) and show the inline help regarding the individual configuration parameters. Further information is also available in the online help that can be opened using the links in the inline help of the respective subject.
  • In the menu Data pointsModbus, add a new device () and edit it ():

    • Description: Modbus_device_2 (example)

    • Type: select the connection type TCP (TCP/IP) or RTU (serial) depending on the Modbus connection

    • Enter IP address and port of the new device for TCP or the serial parameters of the new device for RTU

    • Polling interval: 5 (example)

    • Slave address: enter the Modbus Slave address of the new device

    • Byte order: configure depending on protocol

  • Click on Save settings.

  • In the menu Data pointsModbus in the Data points section of the new device, add a new data point () and edit it ():

    • Take the values for Type, Register and Format from the protocol of the new device

  • Click on Save settings.

  • Activate the modified profile with the button (Activate profile).

You have added a new Modbus device and the data points to be read with this.

Result testing

  • Check in the StatusCurrent values menu of the icom Data Suite in the Modbus section, whether the newly added Modbus device is online and the data points indicate plausible values.
