PPPoE Connections

The network protocol Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP) is used via an Ethernet connection for PPPoE connections. PPPoE enables the router to establish an Internet connection via an inserted DSL card or a connected DSL modem.

Internal DSL card

If an internal DSL card is used for a DSL connection, this is usually configured in the Interfaces menu on the Slot x: DSL page for the PPPoE mode.

As circumstances demand to configure it in the Ethernet mode, a PPPoE interface must be used for connection establishment in the Interfaces menu on the PPPoE page. The following is to be observed then: A PPPoE connection (PPPoE tunnel) will be set up within a WAN chain. It is mandatory that this WAN chain contains the WAN interface that is intended for establishing the PPPoE connection before the PPPoE interface. In case of an inserted DSL card, the internal DSL modem will be used as WAN interface. This interface intended for the transport of the PPPoE packets shall not have a static IP configuration and not request an IP configuration via DHCP.

External DSL modem

A PPPoE connection (PPPoE tunnel) will be set up within a WAN chain. It is mandatory that this WAN chain contains the WAN interface that is intended for establishing the PPPoE connection before the PPPoE interface. In case of an external DSL modem, the WAN interface is an IP net of the router in mode WAN. The DSL modem must be connected to a port of the router that is assigned to this IP net. This interface intended for the transport of the PPPoE packets shall not have a static IP configuration and not request an IP configuration via DHCP.
